This procedure is primarily used for people whose hair is thinning or they are going bald. It restores our hair back to the fullness that it once had. At Avane Cosmetic Dermatology Clinic &amp; Medical Spa in Nairobi, Kenya, we offer this procedure to patients who want to reclaim their full, thick head of hair.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What are the methods? <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>There are two methods when it comes to getting a hair transplant.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Follicular Unit Strip Surgery<\/li>\n<li>Follicular Unit Extraction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These methods have been used by doctors since the 1950\u2019s. They each tackle the process of hair transplant and restoration in two different ways. The Follicular Unit Strip Surgery or FUSS, involves removing a 6 to 10-inch strip of skin from the back of the head. Once removed, the doctor sews the area closed and then he divides the strip into 500 to 2,00 tiny hair grafts. After the grafts are prepared, the doctor then sterilizes and numbs the area of skin where the hair will go. Then he carefully creates holes or slits and places the graft into each of the holes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the Follicular Unit Extraction, the doctor shaves the back of your scalp then carefully removes the hair follicles. Once the hair follicles are removed the doctor sterilizes the area and creates slits to plant to follicles. After the slits are created, the doctor then places the hair follicles inside.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What to expect post-surgery<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Post-surgery, your doctor may prescribe you medications to take a few days afterwards. You will also have to wear bandages for a couple days\u2019 post-surgery to allow the areas to heal. After approximately 2 to 3 weeks, the transplanted hair will fall out. However, it will be replaced by new growth a month or so afterwards. To aid in the new growth of hair, some doctors prescribe Rogaine (minoxidil) a drug that helps hair growth. Patients typically see about 60% of new growth in about 6-9 months after the procedure.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What are the side effects? <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Just like with any surgery, there are risks with the hair transplants, these are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pain<\/li>\n<li>Inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding<\/li>\n<li>Infection<\/li>\n<li>Scarring<\/li>\n<li>Unnatural-looking new hair<\/li>\n<li>Folliculitis<\/li>\n<li>Shock loss (not permanent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your doctor will go over the side effects and remedies for you beforehand. The doctor will also make sure to give you the proper medication to help your recovery.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What are the results? <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results take a while to be seen, and is based on personal preference. Sometimes you may need an additional surgery afterwards to get your desired result. Typically, when you get this procedure you should see hair growth in the areas of transplantation. Patients who receive this often see growth and fullness in areas that were thinning or going bald.
